Looking back at our 2024 Gold Winners

blog

With just a few weeks remaining until entries close for the Farm Shop & Deli Product Awards 2025, we take a look back at some of our Gold Award winners in the 2024 awards.

The 2024 Product Awards celebrated an extraordinary year, marked by a record-breaking number of entries from a wide range of categories. Our expert panel of judges were impressed by the innovation, quality, and diversity of the specialist products submitted. After rigorous evaluation, only the most outstanding products rose above the competition and earned a Gold Award.

Among these winners were Cakehead, an Oakham-based bakery who wowed our judges with their Lemon Polenta Cake, Caramel Shortbread and Sticky Toffee Slump Cake, all of which took home a Gold Award.

Nancy Mercala, Brand Marketing Manager from Cakehead said: “As a business new to this sector and with our brand not being ‘hugely’ known, having awards such as these are really important and help provide confidence to potential customers to give our cakes a go.”

Cakehead will be exhibiting again this year at the Farm Shop & Deli Show where winners are able to showcase their achievements in the awards. Nicola said “The Gold Awards we hold are a great talking point when speaking to people regarding our fantastic quality and it makes us proud and keeps us pushing on forward to make even more delicious new products!”

Remember to stop by Cakehead’s stand at the Farm Shop & Deli Show on stand number K209 and try some of their award-winning goodies!

Exhibiting at the Farm Shop & Deli Show and participating in the Product Awards go hand in hand, offering businesses an excellent opportunity to boost their visibility at the event. Exhibitors are also entitled to an exclusive 50% discount on the cost of their product entries. Another brand who celebrated multiple products winning a Gold Award in 2024, was Boddington’s Berries Ltd (Boddington’s Preserves). Both their Strawberry Conserve and Chilli Jam were awarded the Gold title by our panel of judges.

“Winning a Gold Award has boosted ours and our customers confidence in the quality and viability of our products within the retail market. It’s great to receive feedback on the full product, including price and packaging, rather than just the flavour.” – Will Boddington, Boddington’s Berries.

Boddington’s Berries will be exhibiting at the Farm Shop & Deli Show on stand number E240.

The Farm Shop & Deli Product Awards are open to specialist brands of all sizes. The awards create a valuable opportunity for smaller brands to showcase their products in a supportive and constructive environment. This allows these emerging businesses to gain recognition and visibility without the pressure of being compared to industry giants.

John Thomson from Peck and Strong, who achieved a Gold award for their Yoghurt Topped Apple & Blackberry Filled Flapjack, had this to say: “The Farm Shop & Deli Product Awards were the first National awards that we felt smaller local bakers could enter. Although we have been baking for over 42 years most of the national awards were aimed at branded, large companies with lots of consumer reach. These awards allowed us to showcase along with other smaller type bakers how amazing local produced products can be made using some local ingredients and still offer value for money, great quality across Vegan, Gluten free and all sectors of baked products.”

Every product that enters the awards is evaluated by a range of judges and feedback is provided for each product entry. Our judges look at the whole value chain of the product, not just the taste, and their knowledge and expertise in the specialist retail sector can provide brands with valuable insights to help raise their profile in the independent market.

Managing Director of Fieldfare, Matt Whelan said: “Independent endorsement of products is always beneficial and helps shoppers in their decision-making process. Additionally, the feedback we get from judges in the Farm Shop & Deli Product Awards is very useful for product development, so there are advantages to entering, even if you don't win on the day.”
